Chapter 186: River Says, He Has Something to Ask You
’But on second thought, that couldn’t be right. Isn’t Clara Grant far away, filming on set? How could she manage to piss Seth off this badly from so far away? She must have a special talent for it!’
Someone dared to venture an explanation. "President Quinn, we weren’t expecting you to call a meeting on such short notice. We all had other urgent matters to attend to, so we had to hand off our work before we could rush over..."
But before he could finish, Seth Quinn cut him off, his voice even deeper. "So, you’re admitting you’re incapable of handling your job? If that’s the case, you’d better speak up now so I can find someone more competent to replace you."
No one else dared to say a word. ’Something’s off with the President today. Better not to step into the line of fire.’
The meeting dragged on for over two hours. It consisted mostly of the staff reporting their work one by one while Seth Quinn listened with a stone-cold expression, finding fault with everything and delivering a tongue-lashing to everyone.
After nearly everyone had been thoroughly chewed out, Seth Quinn finally declared the meeting over. He was the first to leave the conference room and head back to his office.
Only after his figure had completely disappeared did the people in the conference room dare to let out a collective sigh of relief.
"Hey, hey, Chase! What’s with Seth today? Did he swallow a grenade or something?" Outside the President’s office, River Sterling grabbed Chase Childs, trying to fish for information.
Chase Childs held up his hands. "President Sterling, I have no idea. President Quinn’s been like this ever since he arrived at the office."
’Besides, even if I did know, I wouldn’t dare just tell him!’
"How could you not know? You’re his personal assistant," River Sterling said, unconvinced. He abruptly leaned in closer, gave a conspiratorial wink, and asked, "Did that Clara Grant have a fight with your boss?"
"I really don’t know, President Sterling. I’m not glued to President Quinn’s side 24/7." With that, Chase Childs ignored him and headed straight for the assistant’s office. He had a lot of work to do, after all.
"Tch, what a buzzkill," River Sterling muttered, deflated.
"If you want to know what’s wrong with Seth, why don’t you just go in and ask?" Linden Jennings commented nonchalantly from behind him.
River Sterling’s interest was instantly piqued. Full of renewed energy, he looked at Linden Jennings excitedly. "You’d really dare to ask?"
Linden Jennings just shot him a look without a word, then pushed open the door to the President’s office and walked straight in.
River Sterling happily trotted in right behind him. Since someone else was willing to be the point man, he was more than happy to reap the benefits.
Hearing the office door open, Seth Quinn looked up. When he saw it was them, his expression, while still grim, softened slightly.
Although he was the President and the other two were general managers, their relationship wasn’t merely that of a boss and his subordinates. They were also partners, and more importantly, close friends and brothers.
As a result, the three of them were quite casual with one another.
"What are you two doing in here? Is all your work finished?" Seth Quinn lowered his head again, his gaze returning to the document in front of him.
"Come on, Seth. The work will never be done. You have to let yourself relax once in a while so you can work better later." River Sterling hopped onto the edge of Seth Quinn’s desk, a roguish grin on his face. "Right, Linden?"
Seth Quinn tossed the pen in his hand onto the desk and said coldly, "Do you need something? If not, get out and get back to work."
"We do." This time, it was Linden Jennings who spoke. He glanced at River Sterling, whose eyes were practically sparkling as he silently urged him to hurry up and ask. Linden then said languidly, "...River has something he wants to ask you."
River Sterling was left speechless.
